About Us

Since its founding in 1916, the International Institute of Akron (IIA) has served over 85,000 individuals. On average, the IIA's professional staff handles 10,000 immigration-related problems and helps to reunite 850 families each year. The IIA's education programs serve approximately 2,200 individuals each year. In 2005, the Language Bank handled over 2,400 translation and interpreting requests from various sectors of the community. Since the start of the Refugee Resettlement Program in 1979, the IIA has resettled 2,400 refugees from war-torn countries.

Accreditations:

The International Institute of Akron is recognized by the United States Department of Justice Board of Immigration Appeals to represent the foreign born. Our immigration counselors are accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Department of Homeland Security to represent clients before the courts and the DHS. The International Institute of Akron is also a member of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI).
