Interpreter Training Program
Beyond-the-Basics Interpreter Terminology and Skills (BITS)
is a three-part comprehensive interpreter training program which is conveniently taught as a series of two-day workshops offered once a month.
What do we mean by:
Beyond-the-Basics – essential, fundamental, core knowledge and skills that turn a bilingual into a professional interpreter
Interpreter – beginners or experienced interpreters and bilinguals who strive to improve their professional performance
Terminology – core terminology of the specific setting knowledge of which is essential for any qualified interpreter
and
Skills – exercises designed to improve consecutive and sight translation skills while practicing specific terminology
How does this program differ from other interpreter trainings?
BITS is not an introductory orientation. It is not about interpreting in general, it is the know-how of interpreting. BITS teaches specific terminology and skills that any interpreter needs to master in order to be qualified.
Each BITS workshop includes an easy-to-understand multimedia presentation of subject-specific English terminology and concepts, ample practice of this terminology while sharpening interpreting skills, and discussion of skits introducing ethical dilemmas within the subject-specific situations. All instruction is in English. The developer and instructor of the course is Natalya Mytareva, an experienced interpreter and trainer (to see the instructor's bio, click here).
